Do we have to salute the flag or say the Pledge of Allegiance?

No. The First Amendment protects both the right to speak and the right not to speak. So every student has the right to refuse to salute the flag or to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and school authorities may not ask for or evaluate your reason. There is no right to disturb others, but you may sit quietly and cannot be ordered to stand up or to leave the room. You cannot be punished for refusing to participate in the Pledge.
