But is any religious expression in school banned?

No. The First Amendment protects all students’ right to hold their own beliefs, including religious beliefs, and to express those beliefs to the same extent as any other personal expression is allowed in the school. For example, if you’re allowed to read a book of your choice during study hall or in the cafeteria, then you can read the Bible or the Koran.
