A student who is suspended is temporarily prohibited from attending school (including activities) [1] A suspension can be short (up to 10 days) or longer. A student who is expelled can’t attend his or her regular program any more; expulsion is further defined by each school district. [2] In ether case a student must stay off campus during school hours and may not take part in activities. It’s a criminal offense for a student who is suspended or expelled to come back onto school property except for a scheduled appointment and with a parent. [3] [1] COMAR § 13A.08.01.11(C)(4).
